Consciousness

The team's focus is primarily centered on epileptology, with research conducted by Laurent Vercueil and Nathan Faivre. Laurent Vercueil studies absence seizures, a disorder characterized by impaired consciousness due to generalized cortical discharges in children and, more rarely, adults. Nathan Faivre is leading an ERC project aimed at describing the electrochemical basis of perceptual consciousness using stereo-electroencephalographic (sEEG) measurements in epileptic patients.

Sleep is another key area of research, studied by Jean-Baptiste Eichenlaub and Pascal Hot. They are exploring the microstructural properties of REM sleep and how they change with age.

Finally, Romain Grandchamp is interested in altered states of consciousness, particularly those related to attention (e.g., meditation), which he explores through brain imaging, brain-machine interfaces, and immersive approaches, combined with phenomenological data.
