Towards a new computational model of working memory beyond TBRS*

Conscience, Mémoire et MétaCognition (CoMMet)

In a relatively informal stage for now, the project aimed at developing a new computational model of working memory. Building on a shared observation that the TBRS* model—which has been the foundation of our work for the past decade (Lemaire et al., 2021; Lemaire & Portrat, 2018; Portrat et al., 2016)—fails to predict certain behavioral effects observed in complex span tasks (e.g., the free-time benefit, transposition gradient), we are considering a simplified architecture based on the decay and refreshing of memory traces to account for key benchmarks identified by the scientific community (Oberauer et al., 2018).
